Dear Etowah Customers,

As concerns grow over the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Etowah Water & Sewer Authority (EWSA) would like to give you and update on how we will continue to provide excellent service to our community during this time.

Continuous access to safe, clean water and sanitary sewer systems are some of the most important components of the public health system. EWSA has always and will continue to staff our treatment plants with water professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to provide these vital services to Dawson County.

During this time, we ask that customers follow the recommended CDC guidelines and if you are feeling unwell, take every measure possible to limit your exposure to others in the community.

At this time, we encourage you to take advantage of the multiple options to pay your bill:

• Mail your payment to 1162 Hwy 53 E Dawsonville, Ga 30534.
• We have two drop box locations. One on our building and one in our parking lot.
• Pay online at etowahwaterga.gov via a one-time payment, or sign up for recurring payment on a credit card.
• Sign up for recurring ACH payments and receive a statement credit. Click here for more info.
• Pay by phone day or night by calling 1-855-374-3927.
• Call Customer Service at 706-216-8474 to make your payment with a Customer Service Representative.

If you need to sign up for new service or purchase a new meter, you can do so at etowahwaterga.gov, click new service. Once your application is submitted, we will contact you.

A few points to remember:

Is My Water Safe to Drink? Absolutely.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), conventional water treatment like that of the HCWA uses filtration and disinfection that removes or inactivates the virus that causes COVID-19. In addition, the World Health Organization adds that the presence of the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water supplies.

Please Remember: The Toilet is Not a Trash Can!

While EWSA customers are confined to their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Authority has had to deal with the unintended and likely unintentional consequences of a higher volume of wet wipes and grease entering its sewer lines.

To maintain the integrity of the EWSA sewage collections system, Authority officials are requesting that customers refrain from flushing any type of “flushable” or “non-flushable” wet wipes down the toilet, which are likely to clog  sewer lines and cause sewer spills and overflows, which threaten the environment and water quality. As the saying goes: “the toilet is not a trash can”!

In addition, Authority officials note the similarly damaging effects of excessive fats, oils and grease (FOG) to sewage collections and conveyance, when customers dispose of these items down the sink. Customer compliance with proper wet wipe and grease disposal – in the trash – will help the EWSA continually maintain a fully functioning sewer system, especially during this current crisis.
